A homestay in the Kumaon Himalaya

Joie de Vivre is a boutique homestay in Sashbani–Letibunga, a quiet village about 12 km from Mukteshwar town in Uttarakhand. Local craftsmen built the stone walls, wooden staircases and attic rooms in traditional hill style. Our caretaker Naresh and his family live on the property and cook every meal.

Making a house in the hills is very different from making a home in the hills… Joie De Vivre is a home. And you feel that with every breath, every glance and every touch. You can visualise happy families huddled near the fireplace, excited cackles wafting out into the nippy night.

This was our second stay at Joie de Vivre in Mukteshwar, and it was just as wonderful as the first. The property is beautifully located amidst serene hills and forest, far from the usual tourist crowd… Reema, the owner, was warm and helpful—she suggested some nice trekking spots and local places to eat.
